Happy Hour

"IF A LIFETIME CAN BE LIKENED TO A DAY, THEN THIS IS HAPPY HOUR!"
BUCK PENNINGTON

Mother, Mother Ocean

Mother, Mother Ocean, I've heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
In your belly you hold the treasures, few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred year's too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is."
―Yoda, to Luke Skywalker

Counted the Stars

Counted the stars on the 4th of July
Wishing we were rockets bursting in the sky
Talking about redemption and leaving things behind
I have these pictures and I keep these photographs
To remind me of a time
These pictures and these photographs
Let me know I'm doin' fine
We used to be so happy once upon a time
Once upon a time
But the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line
And the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line

From The Federalist: The Nonexistent Link Between Grilling And Gender

"Do you ever go out in your driveway, fire up your grill, grab yourself by your balls, and just howl at the sky, fully taken over by your own caveman essence and the general awesomeness of being a man? Well, if you’re me you don’t need the grill to make this happen, it’s just a normal part of Saturday afternoons. For Jacob Brogan in Slate, thegrill is a necessity. Of course, as he explains, this is problematic.
“At such moments, I get the sense that I’ve fallen into a societal trap, one that reaffirms gender roles I’ve spent years trying to undo. The whole business feels retrograde, a relic of some earlier, less inclusive era.”

I bet he doesn’t even grab his junk and howl at the sky. And he just keeps going. “Gathered around the coals with beers slung low, we’re all but enacting a myth of the American man, telling a story in postures and poses. No longer mere Ph.D. students, we have become bros."--------------Rich Cromwell

19 years

Strange to think of this on an odd numbered year.
Nineteen years ago today, I checked out of Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron One Four Zero aboard Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island, Washington. Retirement Leave and three days of transit to the family home.
I guess it is a milestone of sorts. I don't know. It sort of came to me.
Buck and others will know what I mean.
We remember things and dates most folks find rather odd.
There are things I mention now from before the Current Missus ORPO and I were married that cause her to raise an eyebrow. It is what it is. Very few of the recollections are of life with the First Missus ORPO. Good thing, eh?
Nineteen years...........................................
The things that have occurred in that time.....................................
It all started in a Hyundai four door headed back to Havre, Montana..........................on to Wichita, Kansas and California City, California...............................

Minor Changes

I have taken my name off F-16AM 80-3666. It is still in the "forms" as assistant crew chief. At work I will here in refer to said aircraft as Roy's jet. Roy is the dedicated crew chief and has had the airplane for quite sometime.
I have been sand bagged by my pro super twice concerning 6 year landing gear changes and a phase inspection. The day shift crew chief, me, was left out of all the meetings preceding both events. I spend very little time doing much real maintenance. I am a grade lower than all the other crew chiefs and most of my time is on the line.
I have had the forms/cams thing dumped on me at the end of the day when we have washed an airplane. I always wonder why I am suddenly the one in charge when it is others who are designated.
So as a mild statement of displeasure, I took my name off the airplane.
I have also applied on USA Jobs for a position at Naval Air Station Lemoore CA. It is at the Fleet Readiness Center there and a grade 10 position. It pays less than what I am making now as it is a 'lower cost of living area'.
Additionally, I have explored the possibility of returning to the ballast trains.
The unit I work in is a civilian operation and "not like the real Air Force" That being said most of the management and supervision is prior Air Force and only one was ever an NCO.
Rant Complete.

From Blog Bud Buck at EIP: It Worked. Except For When It Didn't.

Various little tidbits for your perusal.
I do like the eye candy from the Ukraine. Especially the one he has showing at the post.......Sulty is a mild description IMHO. But we all know that line about opinions, do we not?
Detroit lost. I, as a fan of Les Habitants of Montreal............................do enjoy when the Evil Red Wings lose.......It is a double thing as my youngest daughter, Amanda is a Red Wings fan as well.
Kudos to Buck's Grandson, Sean.......just might be the beginning of a career.

I had to, OK!

Desert Crud. Something like the Whidbey Crud

It started on Tuesday night with the ear aches and sore throat. Wednesday was hard down, horizontal except for trips to the john and fluid intake. Went to work on Thursday and Friday. Yesterday did a "just because we are taking the jet to Red Flag wash." The afternoon spiraled after that. Lunch was at about 1345 then the meeting for Red Flag. Then doing the online business with my travel card stuff. I finally got the left overs from my trip to Utah all done.
The Missus and I went to one of our local eateries for a bit for dinner. Came home and it was time to get up close and personal with Ms. Nyquil.
Tried to do some OT this morning.............didn't quite work out as I lasted all of an hour and a half.
Head is stuffed like there is a basketball inside of it. Drainage. Fever and chills. OJ in the Fridge. The possibility of some hot toddies later is there. Hate to use Maker's Mark but it is what I have. Maybe I will slide to the Rite Aid and grab a bottle of a decent Canadian Blend for Medicinal Purposes.
I feel like I have been pulled through a knot hole, over a bad set of rail road tracks and tossed in the infamous drainage canal at Subic Bay(aka......Shit River)

From Aeronews.net.

Defense Budget Reductions, Limited Opportunities For New Work And Competitive Cost Structure Driving Need To Close Facility.

This one is from The Wichita Eagle.
Wichita facility’s closing will affect 2,160 Boeing workers

This place has been open for a long time. And by the end of 2013 it will be closed. It does mostly defense work.
Another aircraft company laying off as a result of serious stupid on the part of the current administration and the former speaker and majority leader.

Liberals Oppose New Winnipeg Team Logo

From Canada Free Press.
This one takes the cake. Along the lines of what is happening in Grand Forks ND with the UND Fighting Sioux.
Kind of makes one wonder about some folks, ya know. As one could guess, I like the logo. When I was in HS in Bow Island, Alberta from 68 to 71, I considered a career in the Canadian Armed Forces. Mom threw a fit and we moved back to the States.

File This Under "Miss Me Yet?"

From Blackfive via Buck Pennington at Exile in Portales. Can you believe this sorry sack of shit? What a Fucking Low Life Dirt Bag, Commie Camel Jockey!

File This Under "Miss Me Yet?"

The President addressing the 10th Mountain Division today at Fort Drum:
"First time I saw 10th Mountain Division, you guys were in southern Iraq. When I went back to visit Afghanistan, you guys were the first ones there.
I had the great honor of seeing some of you because a comrade of yours, Jared Monti, was the first person who I was able to award the Medal of Honor to who actually came back and wasn’t receiving it posthumously."

As we all know, SSG Sal Giunta, of the 173rd Airborne, was the first living recipient (2011) of the MOH who fought in Iraq/Afganistan. SFC Jared Monti, 10th Mountain Division, was KIA in Afghanistan in 2006. He was posthumously awarded the MOH by Obama in 2009.
Can you imagine Dubya making such a statement?  Neither can I.  I don't like Obama, I don't like his politics, but I respect the office of the president.  That said, this gaffe offends me to my very core.  Say what you will about President Bush but the man would NEVER make an error as grievous as this.  Period.  Obama is worse than a fuckin' joke... the man is not worthy of the position he holds.

Stormbringer: UN Small Arms Treaty

This should concern all of us......Not just the firearms owners among us.......
And our CinC, Sec of State, DHS Obersturmmbanfuhrer and that lousy crook holder are on board with this shit!
http://seanlinnane.blogspot.com/2011/06/un-small-arms-treaty.html

Have no doubt that this plan is very real, with strong Obama administration support. In January 2010 the U.S. joined 152 other countries in endorsing a U.N. Arms Treaty Resolution that will establish a 2012 conference to draft a blueprint for enactment. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has pledged to push for Senate ratification.

Former U.N. ambassador John Bolton has cautioned gun owners to take this initiative seriously, stating that the U.N. “is trying to act as though this is really just a treaty about international arms trade between nation states, but there is no doubt that the real agenda here is domestic firearms control.”

Although professing to support the Second Amendment during her presidential election bid, Hillary Clinton is not generally known as a gun rights enthusiast. She has been a long-time activist for federal firearms licensing and registration, and a vigorous opponent of state Right-to-Carry laws. As a New York senator she ranked among the National Rifle Association’s worst “F”-rated gun banners who voted to support the sort of gunpoint disarmament that marked New Orleans’ rogue police actions against law-abiding gun owners in the anarchistic aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

President Obama’s record on citizen gun rights doesn’t reflect much advocacy either. Consider for example his appointment of anti-gun rights former Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels as an alternate U.S. representative to the U.N., and his choice of Andrew Traver who has worked to terminate civilian ownership of so-called “assault rifles” (another prejudicially meaningless gun term) to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Then, in a move unprecedented in American history, the Obama administration quietly banned the re-importation and sale of 850,000 collectable antique U.S.-manufactured M1 Garand and Carbine rifles that were left in South Korea following the Korean War. Developed in the 1930s, the venerable M1 Garand carried the U.S. through World War II, seeing action in every major battle.

Attn: Wasserman Schultz – Is An Illegal Alien’s Murder Of A Houston Cop A Crime? – Updated

From All American Blogger.
Three short paragraphs to get your interest.
...............This is pretty much the Democratic line. Remember, Sen. Harry Reid called illegal aliens“Undocumented Americans.”
So I have to ask Debbie, if an illegal immigrant kills a Houston police officer, are they guilty of that crime? Or do they get a pass on it also?
The reason I ask is because one just did. It was the sixth straight officer killed in Houston to be killed by an “undocumented American”:............................

Le·gal In·sur·rec·tion: Kagan Should Recuse Herself As To Obamacare

Professor Jacobson has some good points here....and not all are pointing to the overturning of obamacare.
But there is still hope...
And this "woman" should have never been confirmed much less nominated........no judicial bench experience at all. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
At least Sotomayor had some......not much but some. Kagan is agenda driven.......for what ever reasons she has.......maybe as part of her growing up process?Who knows.....Most of the nominees for anything that oblunder comes up with all have skeletons in their collective closets......The variance being how many and at what level of severity those skeletons are.

I am not alone in this, naming a ship for the dirtbag Chavez.

Disgusting: Navy Names New Ship The USS Cesar Chavez

Seems that Bob at Camp of the Saints is really disgusted about it as well. I lit up the CNO, SecNav and MCPON on this on facebook and have yet to see a response. And folks were hammering them in numbers. I ask all to get a hold of your congress critters and vent! This is an outrage.
I will not go down and tell my children I didn't have the courage, the conviction, the commitment or the character to fight for this country...Don't go home and let your children down~~ LTC Allen West
