Happy Hour

"IF A LIFETIME CAN BE LIKENED TO A DAY, THEN THIS IS HAPPY HOUR!"
BUCK PENNINGTON

Mother, Mother Ocean

Mother, Mother Ocean, I've heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
In your belly you hold the treasures, few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred year's too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is."
―Yoda, to Luke Skywalker

Counted the Stars

Counted the stars on the 4th of July
Wishing we were rockets bursting in the sky
Talking about redemption and leaving things behind
I have these pictures and I keep these photographs
To remind me of a time
These pictures and these photographs
Let me know I'm doin' fine
We used to be so happy once upon a time
Once upon a time
But the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line
And the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line

Stolen from my sister

Dennis Miller: What kind of morally bankrupt cretin tells my teenage daughter that voting for him is the same as losing your virginity?
It does make one go Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Or does it cause one to become angry and outraged at such conduct?
I go with the latter.
Got to hand it to Dennis Miller for the description of the current occupant: morally bankrupt cretin is a new one on me.
That description seems so fitting as observing the current occupant's demeanor and carriage during this campaign season.

The photographer at Auschwitz: Man forced to take chilling images of inmates and their Nazi guards was haunted until his death at 94

From the Daily Mail.
  • Photographer Wilhelm Brasse died this week aged 94
  • He had taken up to 50,000 photos in Auschwitz for the Nazis
  • Mr Brasse hid negatives which were used to convict the very Nazis who commissioned them
  • Wilhelm Brasse took some 40,000-50,000 photographs inside Aushwitz for the Nazis including these shots of Czeslawa Kwoka after she was beaten by a guard
Frightened victims: Wilhelm Brasse took some 40,000-50,000 photographs inside Aushwitz for the Nazis including these shots of Czeslawa Kwoka after she was beaten by a guard

The full story with photos and a video.........
    Sobering it truly is.

Banning Food Trucks And Man Camps Is Creating A Development Bubble In Western ND

I found this little tidbit at Say Anything Blog from North Dakota.
Western ND is sort of an old stomping ground when I was on the ballast trains and our most esteemed Blog Bud Buck Pennington when he was in the Air Force.
There is an oil boom in places like Williston, Minot, Stanley and other little hamlets along the Glasgow Subdivision and US Route 2.

Ghosts of war: Artist superimposes World War II photographs onto modern pictures of the same street scenes | Mail Online

Ghosts of war: Artist superimposes World War II photographs onto modern pictures of the same street scenes
    | Mail Online

This haunting collection of images shows what it would look like if the ghosts of World War II returned to our streets.
The remarkable pictures overlay modern scenes from France with atmospheric photographs taken in the same place during the war.
Historical expert Jo Teeuwisse, from Amsterdam, began the project after finding 300 old negatives at a flea market in her home city depicting familiar places in a very different context.
Dangerous crossing: Soldiers race up Avenue de Paris in Cherbourg in 1944, speeding past the rubble and over modern-day road markings

Really awesome stuff here. Go and have a look!
