Happy Hour

"IF A LIFETIME CAN BE LIKENED TO A DAY, THEN THIS IS HAPPY HOUR!"
BUCK PENNINGTON

Mother, Mother Ocean

Mother, Mother Ocean, I've heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
In your belly you hold the treasures, few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred year's too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is."
―Yoda, to Luke Skywalker

Counted the Stars

Counted the stars on the 4th of July
Wishing we were rockets bursting in the sky
Talking about redemption and leaving things behind
I have these pictures and I keep these photographs
To remind me of a time
These pictures and these photographs
Let me know I'm doin' fine
We used to be so happy once upon a time
Once upon a time
But the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line
And the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line

Not your typical Rosie the Riveter.

My buddy, Nate Wilburn had this at Politically Incorrect Aircraft Nuts Organization on Facebook. A history lesson and a single Rule 5 pic to go with it.
Norma Jeane’s first job was working for Radioplane Corporation, where she had various duties. She mounted propellors, helped make parachutes, and also worked on painting the side of fuselages. In the Spring of 1945, the US Army’s 1st Motion Picture Unit sent photographer David Conover to the Radioplane Corporation to take pictures of the Women in War Work. He wrote a book about it all called Finding Marilyn: A Romance(This was during World War II, and Norma Jeane was one of many women who worked at factories all over the USA to help with the war effort.) David Conover was instructed to get pictures of pretty women at work for the soldiers abroad. He spotted young Norma Jeane, and the rest is history…

A Thanksgiving from a different time and I wasn't even there!

My Shipmate and Dear Friend Donald L. Locke had this on the Argonaut page at Facebook today.
I miss that little blue D50 that is mentioned in the story.............It was one helluva good little four wheel drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember Donald's CJ as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VA 147 Work Center 230 Thanksgiving
This is a no Shitter it was November 1987 in June we returned from the taking the USS Kitty Hawk on her World Cruise, more recently returned from a short det to Luke AFB playing war games with the Air Force (that is a another story). Now we wanted some fun, Thanksgiving was just around the corner my guys and I were debating what we were going to do for the holiday. We were the Night Check Ordnance shop and Ordies always know how to have fun. So AO3 Goldstrom (Goldie), AOAN Adams (Booger), Radar from the AE shop two others and myself AO1 Locke ( my old timers is kicking in and I can not remember the name of the others sorry) after some brain storming we decided we would go camping and cook our Thanksgiving dinner on a camp fire. I had a 350 cid powered 76 CJ5, Booger had a full time four wheel drive CJ7 let’s go four wheeling. Three hours south on Interstate 5 is Frazier Park just west of there is Mt Pinos ORV Park this is the place. So for the next couple of weeks we gather our gear and planned the menu things were looking good. That is until I was showing off in my CJ and twisted the out put shaft off flush with the transfer case. The really bad news it would not be ready before our trip. My good buddy AMH1 Glenn Cassel comes to the rescue. He let me loaned me his Dodge D50 Ram with a few do’s and don’ts. Last night of work I let Chief Rhodes night check Maintenance Chief where we were going he wasn’t sure the woods would be safe with that many AO’s on the loose. We had all better be back to work Monday night in one piece. The next morning we were loaded . Goldie was riding with me the others with Booger. The camp site I was headed to was 30 minutes of easy four wheeling from the main entrance. About 20 minutes later Booger was falling behind finding a spot I pulled over. About this time Booger CJ started bouncing down the trail out of control slamming into the side of the mountain. Doors flew open bodies came flying out Booger had passed gas everyone was dying. After this Booger was no longer allowed to drive. We made to the campsite without any more trouble. Setting up the campsite was going along fine when Radar tells me Goldie had cut his finger really bad. The OD rag wrapped around his finger was now becoming bright red. With Goldie in the Ram Frazier Park was the next stop. I was hoping there would be a Clinic open that took Champus or Bakersfield would be the next stop. To our luck we found a Clinic open. Walking up the window I explained to the nurse we were sailors from NAS Lemoore and my friend had almost cut his finger off. One look at Goldie’s finger we were in the back I was filling out the paperwork Goldie getting 20 plus stitches. When we returned the guys had the camp up and the mess deck was open. The rest of the weekend was spent four wheel’n just having fun with shipmates. We headed back on Saturday. 10 miles from the base I got pulled over for doing 60 in a 55 zone so I figured coming back with a ticket, Goldie’s 20 plus stitches the woods had survived the AO invasion. This Holiday will always rate one of the very best for me.

OLD SCHOOL MAN: Gran Torino and the 31 Old School Man Habits of Walt Kowalski

My Friend and one of our Fellow Lexicans had this link at Facebook this morning.
Got some of those things I remember from Dad, Uncles, Great Uncles and those Dads of my childhood friends.
Perhaps we need a return to these again?
I thought it might be interesting to all of you out there, in the 'sphere.
I found it to be so.

Tom Wolfe's California by Michael Anton, City Journal Autumn 2012

Saw this on the City Journal Site.
Sort of a history lesson as well.
There are some good articles here and I recommend it. That is just my view, ya know.
If it were not for the idiots who elect the idiots in Sacramento, this would be an awesome place to live.
I admit that I like it where I live and work. The Mojave Desert is a beautiful place. I also have the Mountains to the West and South that I see every day. The Ocean is but three hours away. One can, if so inclined, snow ski or snow board in the morning and surf in the afternoon. The Colorado River is three hours away. Just from where I am located.
I enjoy my drive to work every day................
Always remember the idiots in Sacramento.

"There is, in California, an inherent strangeness that has always attracted loners, dreamers, and outliers. Hemmed in on all sides by mountains, forests, deserts, and the sea, California is an island in every sense but the literal, with its own distinct climate, air, soil, flora, and fauna. Geographically and culturally, California is a world unto itself."

"The first white man to lay eyes on it was the Portuguese explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, who anchored in San Diego Bay on September 28, 1542. It was more than 200 years before a party of religious ascetics finally returned, bent on saving souls. The first settlement they built, Mission San Diego de Alcalá, was 1,500 miles from the colonial capital of Mexico City, a four-month trek on foot through treacherous desert. Over the next 50 years, the Franciscan friars managed to crawl their way north, one mission at a time, 21 in all, each a day’s walk from the next. And walking was necessary, at least northbound. The prevailing winds on the coast blow from the north-northwest, and the California Current streams south virtually every day of the year. Sailing “downhill” is, to this day, a breeze and a blast; north is a miserable business. Rather than beating relentlessly upwind, the Spanish in Mexico would head to their more important possession, the Philippines, all the way across the Pacific, and recross the ocean to visit California on the return trip. Well before the term was invented to describe Australia in the age of sail, California was afflicted by the “tyranny of distance.” Only the mildness of the weather and the abundance of the land mitigated what was, in every other respect, a hard, lonely life. Naturally, it drew a certain kind of man—and they were all men."

Greg Gutfeld: Conservatives Must Fight the 'Tyranny of Cool'

Greg Gutfeld. Spot on.
I read this at work on my lunch break. The AF will not let me access my own blogs. Rat. Bastards.
I had to wait till I was at home.

"..............................The Joy of Hate focuses on the hypocrisy of modern tolerance — that it thinly disguises a growing, acceptable intolerance for the things that made America super-awesome. The origin of this phony intolerance springs from one source: the desire to be cool. Everything done in life these days springs from a fear of dorkiness. I called this "dorkophobia," and every time you use it, I get three dollars. Despite the fact that it’s the uncool who make the trains run on time, it's the cool to get the cred. The definition of cool: mass popularity without much achievement. It's how Obama got elected. Ask anyone who voted for him, "Why did you do it?" and the convoluted, wide-eyed answer will ultimately be translated into: "He's cool and that other guy wasn't." The media pushed this to the hilt; and much of the public bought it; giving stuff away is cool — especially when it's others people stuff — and perceived as philanthropic.
So what is perceived as cool, when it's really the opposite?
- Bureaucrats spawned in teacher's lounges chiseling at your income, to the cheers of a pliant media
- Creating dependency as a romantic lifestyle, independent of achievement
- Ridiculing women, minorities, and gays who reject the culture of dependency
- Fake work that doesn't require building, moving or doing things. In 2008, a community organizer beat a war hero who spent years in a prison camp. Apparently that's cool.
- Movements that reject American values in favor of American guilt (Occupy)
- Anti-Americanism as a needy appeasement to our international adversaries
- Hero worship of celebrities based on artificial edginess (Johnny Depp is not really a pirate)
- Destroying things. Did Pete Townsend ever think of the maid as he trashed his 25th hotel room?
- Victimhood. The elevation of the David and Goliath myth as a universal storyboard dictating that evil can be good, as long as it's smaller than the good. If America was a house, the left would root for the termites.
- Code words. Language that aptly describes things is uncool. However, euphemisms created to avoid hurting the feelings of our adversaries is not. Hence, Ft. Hood terror is workplace violence. Which, I guess that makes Hurricane Sandy a pool party.
- Talking about your identity. If you're gay, bisexual, transgendered, Raelian, or Eskimo, chances are I'll hear about it. If you are less proud of what you do than who you do then you're considered cool.
Where does the tyranny of the cool begin?....................................."
The rest is at the link to the post at Breitbart.

Tyranny of Cool. That is some description. When reading the list in the piece, one does go hmmmmmm. OK, I did, anyway.
To me it comes down to dependency is now 'cool.' When I was a kid in North Central Montana, life on a good day was tough at times. My Dad hunted to keep the freezer full. Both of my folks worked. A movie on Saturday was two bits. A Coke was a nickel.
Cool? No concept. Now being a real burden on the rest of us is cool. Got to wonder about shit now days. I do know that my Lee Precision Press is going to get used finally. Take that as you may.
The Rant is now over.
God save us because the idjits inside the beltway sure as hell won't.

Disgusting and sad: War memorial defaced with jihadist graffiti on Veterans Day

Seems that the deeds of The Canadian Armed Forces are not popular with a segment of the population in Toronto.
This was in The Daily Mail today:

Vandals defaced a war memorial with jihadist graffiti just hours after Veterans Day services were held at the site.
The vandal scrawled 'Canada will burn; Praise Allah' in black marker pen across a memorial sculpture in Coronation Park, Toronto.
It came just a few hours after anti-war protesters interrupted the two minute silence during the ceremony at Toronto's Old City Hall Sunday morning by chanting slogans.
Clean up: Council workers inToronto scrub jihadist graffiti off a war memorial in Coronation Park

In my views, the West should treat the Muslims in the manner in which Japan does. They have very tough restrictions on them. I read that last night. When I find it, I will post it.
Now it could have been any hippy, liberal, dependent anti war scum and not Muslim Jihadists. But were I a betting man...............................................

The 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month - Conservative News

The 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month - Conservative News
On the evening of November 10th, 1918, General John J. Pershing – overall commander of the American Expeditionary Force in France – issued out his orders for the next day. They were for continued and unrelenting attack throughout the American sector of the line. Though the announcement had already been made to all units that a Cease Fire was to take effect at 11:00 am that following day, few had faith in its realities; General Pershing included. History tells us, however, that on that momentous day – at the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month – the guns did indeed fall silent for the first time in four years and four months. With that general armistice of hostilities, the First World War effectively drew to a conclusion. It had cost some 13 million lives, the greatest tragedy the world had yet seen, and it made a permanent mark on the generation that had experienced it.

The 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month

Veteran's Day

To all.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Turn Them Over: Feinstein Moves To Ban ALL Assault Rifles, High Capacity Magazines, and Pistol Grips

I have always said this woman is a traitor. I hold to that even more so after this. It is the simple and unvarnished truth.
She has as a trademark of her tenure in the senate a track record of attacks on individual liberties.
Always remember this, Dianne Feinstein is a Traitor. Nothing else matters. She should be arrested and tried by a court of law.
She has failed to uphold that most critical part of the oath of office. That is to "preserve and protect the Constitution of The United States, against all enemies, foreign and domestic." This does, give aid and comfort to our enemies.

James Pisano at Google Plus on the election yesterday

Here's what I'm seeing from what happened last night:

1. The American people have spoken. Although I do not believe Conservatism is a minority mentality in America, what is exposed through the evidence from yesterday's election is that Conservatives are not well represented, and thus will not be able to well represent Americans in its political endeavours. This needs to change if America is going to become a powerful leader on the world stage again, instead of a complicit follower.

2. Americans, as a whole, do not understand the damage that has been done to our ability to sustain ourselves as a Nation. We've forgotten what self reliance means, and have traded hard work and dignity in for revenge politics a la Valarie Jarrett, David Axelrod and President Obama. America, to our dismay, has shown that the sensationalism of the dirty political game is what makes them happy.

3. We, as a Nation, are in for a devaluation of the dollar as a world currency. The world, as we know it, will begin to stop trading commodities in our currency and we will begin to see a downward spiral into banana republic status as we continue to try to print our way out of the obligations Keynesian fiscal policies will create for our progeny, and theirs. America will see its credit rating dropped from the As and we will become the biggest Greece this world has ever known. The rest of the world will be forced to cut us off for fear of our failure taking us down with them.

4. Because the House remained in GOP control and the Senate did not change control we will see a perpetual Continuing Resolution built on a 2009 budget baseline that included over $1T in spending that was intended to be temporary. Instead of what President Obama promised in a reduction of our National Debt and reduction of our Deficit Spending we will see at least $5T more added to our debt with $1.3T/yr deficit spending per year until Obama leaves office.

5. There will be continued attacks on the non-governmental institutions that have helped define what it means to be an American. The Constitution will see attack after attack as Justice Ginsburg retires and two more lifetime appointments to the Supreme Court are appointed by President Obama and Harry Reid. These appointments will be divisive, have defined designs on their personal interpretations of the Constitution and what it means in terms of how the Government can control the individual and the individual entity. We will see an increased fervor from those already in our Government for Command and Control governance, where the regulatory state will determine your outcome regardless of the legal ramifications of your actions within your state of residency. If you wish to succeed it will be at the behest of the Government, not because of your desire to do so.

6. Iran will be emboldened by our inability to throw off the shackles of tyranny which bind us to our fate. Ahmadinejad will see this election as akin to what happened in 2009 in Tahrir Square through violence and unproductive demonstration against a totalitarian regime, and recognize our unfulfilled will to oust a dictatorial despot as further evidence that we do not possess the means to prevent him from developing a nuclear device. Iran will reach that goal or Israel will be forced to stop them, and they will have to do so on their own. This will spark the powder keg that is the Middle East into what could very well become the catalyst to WW3. Under President Obama we will not be prepared to protect ourselves or our allies, and we will not be prepared to feed and power ourselves without the rest of the world's resources available for our purchase because the Command and Control state will not allow for continued domestic energy and agricultural development.

7. Because the President and those in the Senate will see their continued status in power as a mandate from the people for them to lead us to their designs of what this Nation should be we will see massive increases in taxes for the wealthy and what is known as the upper middle class. Those who have means will leave this country for nations friendlier to their wealth, and those who do not have means will suffer at the hands of a Nation that does not value their productivity as much as it values punishing it through wealth redistributive measures. Those who are in the so-called middle class will find it harder to succeed, and those who are poor will become poorer still. There will be a rash of selling of stock and a retraction from the market by those who have capital but are unwilling to spend it in anticipation of the increased taxation that will come beginning in 2013 and continue with the implementation of ObamaCare.

We're in for a very rough four years, everyone. If you measure our Nation's success in terms of the unemployment numbers and GDP, both are in store for a respective downturn as those who produce begin to find new markets to move their productive activities into. War will not become a thing of the past, and we will see many more instances where Libya's failures will become the norm.

We have been shown to be the moral minority. That doesn't need to be our death knell, but at present it will be discouraging. Do not despair. When confronted with the truths about Conservatism in the face of the lies of Liberalism and outside of the echo chamber that is the mainstream media, the American People invariably choose the former over the latter. We have to find a way to cleanse the GOP of those less than upstanding examples of who and what we stand for, and better educate those who are willing to listen. Our message is clear, but the minds of those receptive to it are not, and the hearts of those who would co-opt our souls for avarice and power are all too common.

This is not the end, everyone. It is a beginning. Fight Club and the Dogs of War are not dead. Eventually Americans will realize what they've done to themselves. Once they do we will be there to help guide them out of the dark and into the light that is Freedom, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

My two cents starts here.
I freely admit this, I am not very happy with what occurred last night. There have been many reports of improprieties around the country. I think the process was compromised in several locations. I will wait and see if there are proper investigations into such activity. I do have this little bit from a friend of mine in Madera County, California.
"In Madera County, voters were given TWO ballots for POTUS. I know...I vote in Madera Co. THAT is how obama won...double-voting." Pam McKinney.

"ABSOLUTE VOTER FRAUD. Across the board/across the nation. Look toward the union thugs. Remember, the Election Depts in YOUR county are run by government workers, the socialist democrats, the union members. In Madera County where 89% of the population is Mexican (and a LOT of them illegals), they were given TWO ballots. I KNOW. Republican Congressmen had better form an investigative committee and have every single democrat signature checked for legitimacy and then count the signatures against ballots. There WILL be more ballots than signatures." Pam McKinney.

Remember, this is a state that actively supports and coddles illegal aliens over and above the citizens. The Democrats, as they are called, are directly responsible for this. Governor Brown needs to be held accountable as well along with our Attorney General. That individual, Kamala Harris is a Card Carrying Member of the American Communist Party. Nuff said there.

After the shameful manner in which the voting was handled in many locals along with the blind faith of those who voted for a second term for the Current Occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, I will no longer give any respect to Barack Obama. To me he is a pretender, usurper and a charlatan.
I am now considering liquidation of assets and heading to Belize.

The unintended consequences are already happening as reflected in the Dow dropping 300 points immediately upon opening of the stock exchange.

The United States of America is no longer the Republic which I served for the best twenty years of my life. It is now a third world septic tank. We allowed UN representatives from other countries to "monitor" our electoral process. Our currency is not what it was at all. Our "leaders" act as if they could care less. I include a number of GOP Senators in this as well.

All of those who voted and enabled the outcome of last night are going to be surprised when things start to fall in on them as a result of their lack of proper judgement.

As for California, the liberals who make up the majority in this once vibrant and productive state have decided, among other things, that a tax hike is in order. Prop 30 was passed along with other dubious measures.

Diane Feinstein 'won' her fourth term in the Senate.Term limits seem like a good idea to me.
I guess I am done for now.
