Happy Hour

Mother, Mother Ocean

Mother, Mother Ocean, I've heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
In your belly you hold the treasures, few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred year's too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is."
―Yoda, to Luke Skywalker

Counted the Stars

Counted the stars on the 4th of July
Wishing we were rockets bursting in the sky
Talking about redemption and leaving things behind
I have these pictures and I keep these photographs
To remind me of a time
These pictures and these photographs
Let me know I'm doin' fine
We used to be so happy once upon a time
Once upon a time
But the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line
And the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line

Restless................Gordon Lightfoot.

The lyrics only..............................
It describes the feelings that The Old Retired Petty Officer has these days.......................

Gordon Lightfoot...............................
There's a kind of a restless feeling and it pulls me from within
It sets my senses reeling and my wheels begin to spin
In the quietude of winter you can hear the wild geese cry
And I will always love that sound until the day I die
There's a plain and a simple answer to each and every quest
From every quiet dance who might be a special guest
In a movie made for TV or a late night interview
You might even find them on the Young and the Restless too
Do ya get that restless feelin' when you hear a whistle blast
Like an echo from the past
Of an old engine flyin' down a road that's ironcast
The lake is blue, the sky is gray, the leaves have turned to gold
The wild goose will be on her way, the weather's much too cold
When the muskie and the old trout too have all gone down to rest
We will be returning to the things that we love best
Do ya get that restless yearning when you think about your dad
And the scrimshaw that he had
Of an old schooner rovin' 'neath a sky that's ironclad
There's a kind of a restless feeling and it catches you off guard
As we gaze off at the distance through the trees in my back yard
I can feel that restless yearning of those geese as off they roam
Then trade that for a warm bed and a place I can call home
Will ya get that restless yearning when you hear the wicked blast
Of a spectre from the past
Of a cold diesel rollin' down a road that's built to last
Still I get that restless feelin' when I hear a whistle blast
See an image from the past
Of an old schooner flyin' down a sky that's overcast

A Facebook friend of mine had this up. I clicked the link and wow!

One of the most beautiful buildings in the entire state of Georgia is the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Atlanta.

People travel from all over to marvel over each beautifully sculpted piece of the 36,000 limestone, Italian marble, and sandstone which make up this temple.

There are more amazing pictures at the link. So hit it and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Rainy Friday in The Mojave Desert

I finally remembered to take the trusty Nikon along with me last night.
This was this morning on the way home from work.
I stopped at my usual place at the Cal City Boulevard turn off from the 58.

All I did was aim and shoot!

I have been thinking on this.............the career in Navy Air.

I am also on Google Plus and got a comment on a post from a gentleman who thought I should start a chronicle of sorts about my Navy career and the places I have been and some of the things I have experienced.
I aim to start this coming weekend with perhaps boot camp but more than likely my first sea tour on The Good Ship Independence with the first work up and deployment to the Mediterranean Sea.
We will see how it goes.
I will not go down and tell my children I didn't have the courage, the conviction, the commitment or the character to fight for this country...Don't go home and let your children down~~ LTC Allen West
