Happy Hour

"IF A LIFETIME CAN BE LIKENED TO A DAY, THEN THIS IS HAPPY HOUR!"
BUCK PENNINGTON

Mother, Mother Ocean

Mother, Mother Ocean, I've heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
In your belly you hold the treasures, few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred year's too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is."
―Yoda, to Luke Skywalker

Counted the Stars

Counted the stars on the 4th of July
Wishing we were rockets bursting in the sky
Talking about redemption and leaving things behind
I have these pictures and I keep these photographs
To remind me of a time
These pictures and these photographs
Let me know I'm doin' fine
We used to be so happy once upon a time
Once upon a time
But the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line
And the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line

Kindsbach, Pfalz

We lived in this village in 1968 while Dad was working on the Autovon Telecom system for the Air Force and Army.
I think this is the street, Am Kindsberg. We were upstairs on the right at the corner.

Barenloch. Spent some time here.
Highway 40 looking west. Down that way was Landstuhl.
This is the intersection we turned at to go to our apartment. Across from the yellow house is the street that led up the hill to it. The school bus to K-Town American stopped here in the morning and afternoon. Big Green Army Bus!
Just goofing off and bingo. Flashback. Maybe I should save up and go to Germany and Italy(wife would like that!) For me it is sort of a bucket list thing.

You really SHOULD go, Glenn. I think you might be surprised at all the memories that will come flooding back, stuff you haven't thought of in YEARS.

I took The Second Mrs. Pennington to the house I lived in for three years as a child in suburban Paris... which wasn't that much of a trip, since we were stationed in London at the time. I entertained her for hours that evening over a lil too much wine; she just ate it all up and demanded more. But that was when we were still in love. Heh.

Christopher-It was. And renting a row boat was fun. And there was a little store with some of the coolest ice cream treats!!!!!!!
Buck-My Missus is German-Italian. I applied for positions at Spangdahlem, Ramstein, Lakenheath, Mildenhall and Aviano about two plus years ago. Would have been fun.
And to go back to this village would really be something.

I will not go down and tell my children I didn't have the courage, the conviction, the commitment or the character to fight for this country...Don't go home and let your children down~~ LTC Allen West
