Happy Hour

"IF A LIFETIME CAN BE LIKENED TO A DAY, THEN THIS IS HAPPY HOUR!"
BUCK PENNINGTON

Mother, Mother Ocean

Mother, Mother Ocean, I've heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
In your belly you hold the treasures, few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred year's too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is."
―Yoda, to Luke Skywalker

Counted the Stars

Counted the stars on the 4th of July
Wishing we were rockets bursting in the sky
Talking about redemption and leaving things behind
I have these pictures and I keep these photographs
To remind me of a time
These pictures and these photographs
Let me know I'm doin' fine
We used to be so happy once upon a time
Once upon a time
But the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line
And the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line

Flygirlpainter Project Part 3

Shayne, her hubby Scott Donnell and Jim Kaplan are finished with Scorpion 100.
This is one of the best looking helos I have ever seen!
The work involved is amazing.
Shayne is noted for the artwork on so many of the CAG Helos in the squadrons based at NAS North Island.

Waxing Poetic

As I wax................poetically tonight...................
I saw a few things tonight on these here intertubes(thanks to Buck)..........yeah

I played the Red River Valley
He'd sit in the kitchen and cry
Run his fingers through seventy years of livin'
And wonder, "Lord, why has every well I've drilled gone dry?"

We were friends, me and this old man
We's like desperados waitin' for a train
Desperados waitin' for a train

He's a drifter, a driller of oil wells
He's an old school man of the world
He taught me how to drive his car when he was too drunk to
And he'd wink and give me money for the girls
And our lives was like, some old Western movie
Like desperados waitin' for a train
Like desperados waitin' for a train

From the time that I could walk he'd take me with him
To a bar called the Green Frog Cafe
There was old men with beer guts and dominos
Lying 'bout their lives while they played
I was just a kid, they all called me "Sidekick"
Just like desperados waitin' for a train
Like desperados waitin' for a train

One day I looked up and he's pushin' eighty
He's got brown tobacco stains all down his chin
Well to me he was a hero of this country
So why's he all dressed up like them old men
Drinkin' beer and playin' Moon and Forty-two
Jus' like desperados waitin' for a train
Like a desperado waitin' for a train

The day 'fore he died I went to see him
I was grown and he was almost gone.
So we just closed our eyes and dreamed us up a kitchen
And sang one more verse to that old song
(spoken) Come on, Jack, that son-of-a-bitch is comin'

We're desperados waitin' for a train
Was like desperados waitin' for a train

Captain John Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Whitten Brown

A friend had a picture of the monument in Ireland commemorating the arrival of Captain John Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Whitten Brown in their Vickers Vimy Bomber and the first non stop flight across the Atlantic.

I read about this in the 8th Grade if memory serves me correctly.

Flygirlpainter begins a new project at North Island

My friend Shayne Meder, aka Flygirlpainter is going to paint the CAG Bird of HSM-49, The Scorpions.
This is a fresh from the factory MH-60R which is a fresh canvas for Shayne.

I am going to be chronicling as best I can, the entire process as Shayne posts at her Facebook Page, which is Flygirlpainter, btw...................

Soldiers at Seders During WWII – Tablet Magazine

For this Passover Holiday I found this one while surfing the net.................

Most interesting article, indeed.

According to the lively website Jews in Green, Jews served in WWII in numbers much higher than our representation in the general population; by someestimates, 4 to 5 percent of U.S. soldiers were Jews at a time when we constituted less than 2 percent of the population. And the significance of fighting for others’ liberty during their own celebration of freedom clearly wasn’t lost on them.

If I close my eyes forever...............................Lita and Ozzy

OK, I like this one

Tull................What a laugh............................

On Preston platform
Do your soft shoe shuffle dance
Brush away the cigarette ash
Thats falling down your pants
And then you sadly wonder
Does the nurse treat your old man
The way she should
She made you tea
Asked for your autograph
What a laugh
I will not go down and tell my children I didn't have the courage, the conviction, the commitment or the character to fight for this country...Don't go home and let your children down~~ LTC Allen West
