Happy Hour

"IF A LIFETIME CAN BE LIKENED TO A DAY, THEN THIS IS HAPPY HOUR!"

Mother, Mother Ocean

Mother, Mother Ocean, I've heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
In your belly you hold the treasures, few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred year's too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is."
―Yoda, to Luke Skywalker

Counted the Stars

Counted the stars on the 4th of July
Wishing we were rockets bursting in the sky
Talking about redemption and leaving things behind
I have these pictures and I keep these photographs
To remind me of a time
These pictures and these photographs
Let me know I'm doin' fine
We used to be so happy once upon a time
Once upon a time
But the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line
And the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line

This one is for Buck.

From a place called Abandoned & Little Known Airfields.
Glasgow Air Force Base. Thanks McNamara, you worthless putz.
A shot of Glasgow AFB taken in 2007.
A 12/17/07 aerial view looking west along Glasgow's massive runway.
Seems that Boeing has been using GSG for testing and flight research. There is nothing but wheat fields, safflower fields and cow pastures around. So if an airplane falls out of the sky, there is no chance of hitting anything on the ground.

Only three bases... Yokota, Keesler, and Tinker...remain open out of all the places I served in my 22 years. I spent an aggregate five and a half years in those three places.

It's true when "they" say ya can never go home again.

Whidbey Island and Lemoore are still going strong. Chase Field is gone. Three ships, Independence, Ranger, Kitty Hawk are at the Inactive Ship Facility at PSNS Bremerton awaiting their fate.
VT-26,VA-145,VA-128 all gone. VA-147 has been VFA-147 since 1989. VAQ-140 and SeaOpDet Lemoore are the only stand alone units left for me.

Malmstrom AFB at Great Falls got the field closed when the ARW left for Florida in the mid 90s. The tower was knocked down! They had just poured almost $200 million into buildings, hangars and support for the KC-135s!
The Retired RADM in charge of the BRAC went from the AFB to the Civic Center downtown GTF in an open car motorcade. The locals pelted him with garbage! The commission showed up just for window dressing.
The news that night had his interview. He was upset with his reception. The reporter informed the Rear Admiral that he was among Montana Vigilantes and could have had a really bad day!!!!

I will not go down and tell my children I didn't have the courage, the conviction, the commitment or the character to fight for this country...Don't go home and let your children down~~ LTC Allen West
