Happy Hour

"IF A LIFETIME CAN BE LIKENED TO A DAY, THEN THIS IS HAPPY HOUR!"
BUCK PENNINGTON

Mother, Mother Ocean

Mother, Mother Ocean, I've heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
In your belly you hold the treasures, few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred year's too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is."
―Yoda, to Luke Skywalker

Counted the Stars

Counted the stars on the 4th of July
Wishing we were rockets bursting in the sky
Talking about redemption and leaving things behind
I have these pictures and I keep these photographs
To remind me of a time
These pictures and these photographs
Let me know I'm doin' fine
We used to be so happy once upon a time
Once upon a time
But the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line
And the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line

The Daily Lex – April 28th

This is up at the Lexicans. I have been unable to do links on Wordpress lately so a lot of stuff from The Lexicans will end up here.
Zero Tolerance.........with descriptions of the ramifications of not having such a standard.

I went Home, in a manner of speaking

I went home today yesterday. In a manner of speaking that is.
The Missus and I went to NAS Lemoore. She had not been there since we PCS'd back to NAS Whidbey Island 23 years ago. She was quite impressed with the Commissary and Exchange that are there now. The new Naval Hospital is amazing! The housing is far better than we lived in during our tour there. I put a Navy Region SW vehicle sticker on the truck.
We went out to the Ops Area(Reeves Field) and payed the Argonauts a visit. I got a T-shirt, ball cap and a few zappers!
It was strange having young Naval Aviators address me as Sir!
I also stopped by the FRC Airframes Division where I was in charge of the Hydraulic Shop and then the Night Shift Leading Petty Officer. I am impressed with the young men I met.
To Lex, up there, I do believe our Navy Air is in good hands.
And I would love to land a job there. At times, I really miss the place, ya know.

Airplane Mechanic Funny

My friend and shipmate, Rebecca Hagemann, LCDR, USN, Retired had this up on her Facebook page yesterday. To all the Air Framers Out There! From 1989 to 1991 Rebecca was an AMS2(E5) in my Air Frames Work Center in VA-128 at NAS Whidbey Island WA. She was a damn good airframes technician, by the way. I take a little bit of credit for her very successful career.
I gotta get me one of these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The LA Kings defeat Vancouver

Go Kings!
Jarrett Stoll in OT to give the Los Angeles Kings a 4 games to 1 win in the Western Conference Quarter-Final this evening. Notable as the Kings were the 8 seed and the Canucks were the 1 seed in the West and the President's Trophy Winner for the best record in the regular season. The Kings won all three games in Rogers Arena in Vancouver..........I can hear Don Cherry now!!!!!!!!!!!

Up next are the Saint Louis Blues. This is a classic Second Six Match up as both teams entered the league in the first expansion in 1967.

The Blues eliminated the San Jose Sharks in five games in that series. I am looking forward to this match up. Should be a great series and I like the Kings chances. But I am biased in that ya know.

Milton Eugene Carlisle: An American Sailor

Our Shipmate, AW1 Tim had this excellent post up today. It is worth the time to read it. Really. It. Is.
A reminder that the "Greatest Generation" is leaving us at a rapid rate.

Fare Winds and Following Seas, Shipmate.

Sunday and the chores are done: Updated

Got a nice little white rock area in the sidewalk-porch corner almost done. I need some more white rock. There is a cool planter with several cacti and a desert succulent in it. The Missus is going to get stuff from thrift stores to finish it off. I did it earlier as it is now 86 F outside. I also got the laundry done with the jeans, shorts and my t-shirts being dryed outside on a rack. Gotta love that Desert Sun!!!!!

Lunch is done and I have been watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Philadelphia eliminated Pittsburgh earlier today. I can imagine that Buck is happy about that one. His Red Wings were eliminated the other evening by Nashville. Currently on is Boston at Washington. Washington leads three games to two. It is 2-1 with about three minutes left in Period One.
My Los Angeles Kings meet the Vancouver Canucks later. LA is up 3 games to 1 and could eliminate the Canucks tonight. But the games are played inside your TV set and not on paper.
Bruins win in the OT. This series is going to game seven.

I am enclosing a shot of our temp on the line yesterday..................It was a bit on the WARM side to say the least. The uniform of the day is now shorts!!!!!!
Taken mid afternoon. It was really warm inside the tow tractor I had just parked.

This is the little project I did today. The Missus has plans for the rest of the area around the planter.
