Happy Hour

"IF A LIFETIME CAN BE LIKENED TO A DAY, THEN THIS IS HAPPY HOUR!"

Mother, Mother Ocean

Mother, Mother Ocean, I've heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
In your belly you hold the treasures, few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred year's too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is."
―Yoda, to Luke Skywalker

Counted the Stars

Counted the stars on the 4th of July
Wishing we were rockets bursting in the sky
Talking about redemption and leaving things behind
I have these pictures and I keep these photographs
To remind me of a time
These pictures and these photographs
Let me know I'm doin' fine
We used to be so happy once upon a time
Once upon a time
But the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line
And the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line

Challenge Coin

Got this from a kid who was doing his  Naval Air Reserve thing this past weekend at NAS Lemoore.
VFA-125 is the Legacy Hornet Fleet Replacement Squadron. Effective 1 October it was folded into VFA-122, the Super Hornet FRS.
125 had been in business for thirty years. Yeah, when I was still in my first A-6 squadron.
Jesse sort of owed me for a launch and recovery of the 416 CO on a Saturday that was for a funeral fly over. It was scheduled to be mine but he wanted to do it. He got a major atta boy for it. I told him a twelve pack of Fat Tire, Saint Pauli Girl or Pete's Wicked Ale.
This was way better.
And so the Rough Raiders pass into history. I went through the Flying Eagles twenty five years ago on my way to VA-147. 122 was referred to as Corsair College in those days. A-7E Corsair II.
For some of you.......................age give away!

The Coin thing really amazes me. There was no such tradition back in the Dark Ages or if there was it escaped me, or otherwise avoided me. Mebbe I was in the wrong part of the AF, or sumthin'.

That said... yours is way-cool. I have a VERY small collection these days, every one of which has been given to me by both boys.

Hey it's me again. Were you ever in VA-22, VA-97, VA-56, VA-122, when VA-122 were on a four day work week? Eight section duty. VA-122, had spads, Lear jets, and A7-C and E's. I went to IMA for the A7-E, APQ-126 FLR, work center 630. Plus the SSE for the IMA radar equipment. Worked in hanger 5 in it's mod next to the IMA Ordnance Shop.

One day, long ago, I was one of the young women populating the line shack as a "Flying Beagle". Sundance was the Skipper. I collected Zippos, as they were the craze on the ships back then. I found this blog looking for a VA-122 Challenge Coin, if there is such a thing.
I left 122 just before they decommissioned it, but have the *best* memories of my time there and off my MMCPO, *Mike*.
God Bless all who serve, served, and will in the future.

As a avid collector I must ask if you might know how I can go about getting this coin because this is the squadron my uncle was in and I have been searching for this coin any help is appreciated.

I will not go down and tell my children I didn't have the courage, the conviction, the commitment or the character to fight for this country...Don't go home and let your children down~~ LTC Allen West
