Happy Hour

"IF A LIFETIME CAN BE LIKENED TO A DAY, THEN THIS IS HAPPY HOUR!"

Mother, Mother Ocean

Mother, Mother Ocean, I've heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
In your belly you hold the treasures, few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred year's too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is."
―Yoda, to Luke Skywalker

Counted the Stars

Counted the stars on the 4th of July
Wishing we were rockets bursting in the sky
Talking about redemption and leaving things behind
I have these pictures and I keep these photographs
To remind me of a time
These pictures and these photographs
Let me know I'm doin' fine
We used to be so happy once upon a time
Once upon a time
But the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line
And the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line

Medical Update

There will be surgery. My doc has begun the referral process for a general surgeon. Don't know when, yet.
Additional item: The blood pressure yesterday was 150/103 and today it was 170/110. Not good. Appointment on Monday for that. Wow! Ain't it fun being in the later fifties.
Subjects dicussed: Salt intake, coffee, only one kidney and the fact that I am not a kid anymore.
Salt, I am not a big user, overtly. But the intake needs to go down.
Coffee, this one is gonna hurt. I was in the Sea Service for twenty years!  Coffee is almost like air to me.
Kidney, the artery may be smaller in diameter to the remaining one.
Age, he said we do have some issues as we age. Duh.
So, on Monday next, I will probably be starting a new prescription. Oh boy!
Surgery, less than a year after the last one! My sentiments, exactly!

Aiiieee. NOT good news, especially about the blood pressure. The hernia can and will be corrected fairly easily, the BP not so much.

Are you SURE coffee is bad for blood pressure? Did you do any additional research? I drink a pot a day... EVERY day... and have for years and years and years -- ever since I was 18 -- and my BP readings are on the low side of normal. I realize there are a lot of other factors involved... just sayin'. I'd sooner die than give up my coffee. It's THAT important.

I am also cutting the powerade down and other things. The coffee will be one at work for a while. I will also be adjusting the diet as needed.

If it helps any, my ol man is a much nicer man now that his BP is medicated. It doesn't mean he's lost his edge, but he's not a rage-a-holic anymore unless he misses taking that little pill.

Kinda like me without my thyroid pill.

Coffee? Love it. Perked at home, it is the nectar of the gods. But caffeine interferes with sleep sometimes (it doesn't KEEP me awake, it keeps me from sleeping well, and at my age that just ain't right) so I use half caff, or decaf. Headache went away after the 3rd day.

Now, if I have to give up my Coke, I'm up a creek.

I will not go down and tell my children I didn't have the courage, the conviction, the commitment or the character to fight for this country...Don't go home and let your children down~~ LTC Allen West
