Happy Hour

"IF A LIFETIME CAN BE LIKENED TO A DAY, THEN THIS IS HAPPY HOUR!"

Mother, Mother Ocean

Mother, Mother Ocean, I've heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
In your belly you hold the treasures, few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred year's too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

Yoda

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is."
―Yoda, to Luke Skywalker

Counted the Stars

Counted the stars on the 4th of July
Wishing we were rockets bursting in the sky
Talking about redemption and leaving things behind
I have these pictures and I keep these photographs
To remind me of a time
These pictures and these photographs
Let me know I'm doin' fine
We used to be so happy once upon a time
Once upon a time
But the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line
And the sun sank west of the Mendocino County Line

Missus ORPO is home and other sundry items

Got her at Terminal 6 at LAX last night. She was the last one into the baggage claim. The wheelchair route had been modified due to an elevator out of commission. And wheelchair passengers are the last to deplane. We got out of LAX about 2230 hours. We had a potty stop in Santa Clarita and a late meal at Denny's in Mojave. We hit the house at about zero-two something hours in the AM. I moved my RDO from yesterday to today. I wasn't going to show up at work at 0630 this morning. Not on your life.
I made it to LAX in less time than I had estimated,,,along with google maps. I did the trip in two hours flat. Two weeks before it was about 2:30 to 2:45. Hmmmm?
And for those interested, I finally commented on PHJ&F about the Flight of the Intruder video. Thought provoking? Probably not. Memories? A lot. That airplane represents nine years of my life. Along with a lot of fine folks that I had the privilege to serve with over the years. Going to one of them's retirement next year. She was a young AMS2 back in 89-91 in my Airframes Shop. And now she is an LDO LCDR. With 24 years of service.

It's GOOD to see old friends do good... and do well. My Best Man at my second wedding in '78 was a young two-striper (E-3, to you. Heh.) who went on to retire as a captain (took an early-retirement buy-out about ten years ago when they were first offered) and is currently a VP with a big-ass IT company. So I know where you're coming from with this.

I'm glad the missus is home safe!

Yeah, I found her on facebook last weekend. It has become a spot for a lot of us who are scattered to the winds.
And I did Cal City to LAX in two hours flat. And I wasn't even trying hard.

I will not go down and tell my children I didn't have the courage, the conviction, the commitment or the character to fight for this country...Don't go home and let your children down~~ LTC Allen West
