I used to be into trains when I lived in Winona, MN. BN tracks run right through town and there was a switching yard down by the river for some tiny railroad that ran through southern Minnesota, right next door to a barge terminal that loaded and transported grain away downriver. I was always watching the trains, as there was always plenty to watch.
I had an N-gauge switchyard layout back then. It fell apart in the course of several moves and I've never done anything with the remnants since.
I have dumped rock right through there. Usually got the train across the river from Prescott and would be out all night because of the dispatcher not wanting a satellite ballast train out on his territory. The line from the St.Croix River to LaCrosse is called the St.Croix Subdivision. The roadmaster is a schmuck. The little railroad you speak of used to be the NP, I believe, now the DME/ICE part of the CN. Eventually the CN will do away with all previous identities as they did with the Illinois Central and CP did with the Soo Line. My Hometown is Havre, Montana. It exists only because of Jim Hill and the Great Northern/Burlington Northern/BNSF. Why do you think I ran away to sea?
Ooh! Trains!
