First things first. The logo is out of my child hood and my sister's. When we were kids, trains had that goat on the front. He has a name, Rocky. The steam locomotive is the only Baldwin S-2 Northern left. When I was just out of diapers, that locomotive was on the local from Havre to Malta. There are three Hills in Montana, Up Hill, Down Hill and Jim Hill.
And last but not least, a BNSF Stack Train going up the hill from Barstow/Lenwood to the Cajon Summit. The locomotives are painted................Great Northern Orange. Santa Fe? Yeah. Right.
Have a Rocky day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awwww, now that's purty!
ReplyDeleteI love me some trains, too. It ain't in the blood (as in the family), but I have a love for most all big machinery. And I'm "of an age" where I remember steam trains fairly well... and even traveled on 'em in the way-way back, albeit in northern Japan.
ReplyDeleteThat old Baldwin is in perfect mechanical condition. The city of Havre never could afford to use it on the tracks as a tourist thing. The season is fairly short along the Hi-line. I don't remember the road number but there is a beautiful old Santa Fe steam machine in Kingman, Arizona.
ReplyDeleteDad did some time as a telegrapher on the Great Northern. Yes Buck, I did say telegrapher. And my maternal uncle was an engineer on the Great Northern and then the Burlington Northern.
Steam locomotives are still being built and used for mainline service in China. They have lots of coal!
You need to get up to Sacramento and see the railroad museum they have there! My Grandfather was an engineer for UP back around the turn of the 20th Century. Interesting stories when I could get him talking.
