My Desert. I love this place.
County roads out there in the Mojave near ZzyZx are a really cool RED asphalt, makes the area seem even more surreal.
ReplyDeleteI love it out there too, never seen stars at night like that
PS- when in Baker, skip the Burger King and go to THE MAD GREEK
ReplyDeleteGreat fast food there on the way to Death Valley
Ah... I have mixed emotions about my year in the Mojave. It was relatively close to The First Mrs. Pennington's and my families (hers in Lompoc, mine in El Eh) and the mo'sickle riding was most excellent as I was into dirt bikes at the time. I could push out of my garage and be in open desert in 30 seconds and that's NO exaggeration.
ReplyDeleteThe WX, OTOH, sucked.
I saw some documentary stuff about Zzyzx Rd on the tube the other night (Huell Howswer on PBS California Gold series). Kinda interesting in that it was supposed to be the "last word "
