On June 15, 200 Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines erupted with a tremendous force, ejecting vast amounts of ash and gas high into the atmosphere; so high that the volcano's plume penetrated into the stratosphere. The stratosphere is the layer of atmosphere extending from about 10 km to 50 km (6-30 miles) in altitude. Pinatubo injected about 15 million tons of sulfur dioxide into the stratosphere, where it reacted with water to form a hazy layer of aerosol particles composed primarily of sulfuric acid droplets. Over the course of the next two years strong stratospheric winds spread these aerosol particles around the globe.
Unlike the lower atmosphere (or troposphere, which extends from the surface to roughly 10 km), the stratosphere does not have rain clouds as a mechanism to quickly wash out pollutants. Therefore, a heavy influx of aerosol pollutants, like the plume from Mount Pinatubo, will remain in the stratosphere for years until the processes of chemical reactions and atmospheric circulation can filter them out. In the case of Mount Pinatubo, the result was a measurable cooling of the Earth's surface for a period of almost two years......................"

The Antelope Valley Memorial Wall

This is one for this part of California. It does travel though.
I had a meritorious early today..........airplane wash. So I went to Lancaster HS where it is open through tomorrow.
I know two of the names on it. Darryl Juel and Reid Grayson, Jr. from Scobey, Montana. I was in the seventh grade there in 66-67 and played basketball with their younger brothers. Two from a little bitty(1,000) town in NE Montana. My Mom and Darryl Juel's Mom taught school together in the elementary school..
Still brings a tear............after all these years.

No captions are really necessary. But the thing I noticed was the deference and respect, even by the youngsters from the Student Body at LHS who were assisting. I had a young lady who was about a year older than my step grand daughter. I guess I am now one of the old men.
And yes, it still brings tears...........It probably will, always.

Old versus New

Had a short discussion on FB with a young lady who at one time served in the Argonauts of Strike Fighter Squadron One Four Seven.
Seems she is upset over us Attack Squadron One Four Seven taking exception to the new era. Which, BTW began in 1989 with the arrival of the F/A-18C Hornet. I was gone from the squadron before then.
And the FB Page in question is titled VA-147, not VFA-147.
I was civil in relating what the differences were. Really, I was. But there is now a VFA-147 Argonauts page. Good on them. I wish them well.
Differences in generations, missions and we still were a ways from the now overly PC, Diversity Driven Navy we have now.
Just observations of how things are.

The Bearcat was the last single engined, single seat carrier fighter built by the Grumman Iron Works. Flow by The US Navy, US Marine Corps, French Armee' de le Air and the Royal Thai Air Force. I had a model of a Royal Thai Air Force Bearcat when I was 14.
