Town in OK demolished, from Yahoo News.

Picher, OK is flattened due to mine residual hazards
I did a ballast dump through NE Oklahoma a few years ago. The switch for the branch line to this town was out of service. It is probably gone too.

  1. This is a sad story, to be sure. But my first thought after reading the piece was "Why are the Feds buying everybody out? How does THAT work?"

  2. I was aware of this living in Kansas. Treece, KS is in the same predicament and is in the process of going away itself.
