Steeljaw Scribe - Close Air Support Aircraft Find Renewed Interest

Steeljaw Scribe - Close Air Support Aircraft Find Renewed Interest
Interesting post at the Scribe.
Wonder how the rest of you that have done time in the Air Force, Navy/Marine Air and Army Aviation think about the subject.
Sometimes the high tech, whiz bang may not be the best solution. Otherwise the A-10 would be in museums and on poles.

  1. Having been on the ground in Vietnam, I for one will tell you that the fast movers would come in, shoot th hell out of everything and leave quickly. That age old A1E, "Skyraider" would come in, shoot the hell out of everything and stay on station to hold your hand until your butt was out of the sling. I think there will be a need for the "Old breed" CAS birds and Helicopter gunships as long as there is ground combat.

  2. I know a few guys here at Edwards that are big fans of the A-10.
My Dad told me about the Skyraider and Corsair when he was in Korea. The grunts loved those airplanes.
